5th meeting of the SINAPSE Molecular Imaging group

5th meeting of the SINAPSE Molecular Imaging group - Radiochemistry and Tracer Development focus group, Glasgow, 5 February 2018

The following meeting summary was prepared by Maria Clara Liuzzi and Kotryna Baronaite, Deputy Leads for the Molecular Imaging group:

Researchers from a number of different Scottish Universities met for the SINAPSE Molecular Imaging group meeting, which focused on radiochemistry and tracer development aspects. Attendees enjoyed some tea/coffee at the beginning of the morning session followed by a lovely welcome from Dr Andrew Sutherland. The morning talks started off with Dr Dmitry Solovyev from the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research, who gave a very interesting presentation regarding the development of PET probes in Glasgow. This was followed by a number of PhD students presenting their own research updates in the field: Ilaria Patruno from University of Aberdeen, Tim Morgan from University of Glasgow, Mark Macaskill from University of Edinburgh and Beatrice Longo from University of Aberdeen.

During the lunch break attendees enjoyed a poster display which varied from a number of topics regarding PET/SPECT imaging. The afternoon session included speakers: Tashfeen Walton from University of Edinburgh, Kerry O’Rourke from University of Glasgow and Alessandro Colombano from University of Aberdeen. This was then followed by a quick tea/coffee break which was then followed by presentations from Wendy McDougald from University of Edinburgh and Maria Clara Liuzzi from University of Glasgow. The day concluded with remarks from Dr Sally Pimlott and drew to a close of yet another successful focus group meeting.

A lot of positive feedback was received regarding the meeting, as these rather specific topics can bring early career scientists and students together in order to discuss and compare the latest discoveries in molecular imaging.
