PhD studentship at the Beatson in Glasgow: Exploiting metabolic vulnerability in cancer

Exploiting metabolic vulnerability in cancer

Applications are invited for a PhD studentship project in the molecular imaging laboratory at the CRUK Beatson Institute led by Dr David Lewis. This project will investigate how genetics, microenvironment and cell-of-origin interact to determine metabolic heterogeneity in cancer. Metabolic phenotype will be defined using a range of metabolic PET tracers manufactured at the cyclotron facility in Gartnavel General Hospital and once identified will be characterised and used to design novel therapeutic strategies.

The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow is one of the world leading centres for cancer metabolism research. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics and in vivo models of cancer.

The goal of the Lewis laboratory is to apply positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI), genomics and metabolomics to the understanding of metabolic reprogramming in cancer and to use that knowledge to direct treatment.
