Summary of 2018 SINAPSE ASM

Summary of 2018 SINAPSE ASM

The 10th SINAPSE Annual Scientific Meeting was held on 25 June 2018 at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. The programme celebrated 10 Years of SINAPSE with stimulating proffered presentations, invited talks by local experts in preclinical and clinical imaging, two excellent keynote speakers, and opportunities to network with fellow imaging researchers from across Scotland.

The prizes for Best Proffered Talk were awarded to the following presenters from each of two parallel sessions:

  • Preclinical Imaging: Dr David Lewis, Beatson Institute for Cancer Research (A novel multi-transgenic vector for in vivo delivery of a radionuclide reporter gene to somatic cells)
  • Clinical Imaging: Dr Shuko Joseph, University of Glasgow (High-resolution MRI Imaging Of Bone-Muscle-Fat In Glucocorticoid Treated Boys With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy)

The prize for Plenary Talk with Greatest Potential Impact went to Wendy McDougald from University of Edinburgh (Standardisation of preclinical PET/CT imaging: a necessary step towards achieving translational imaging datasets).

In the afternoon poster session, delegates indicated their favourite poster through a public voting system. The Best Poster prize went to Dr Mark MacAskill from University of Edinburgh (Preclinical assessment of 18 F-LW223; a novel TSPO radiotracer for the detection of inflammation using PET).

Our keynote speakers were Prof David Kiely from the Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit [above left], on the topic of imaging in pulmonary hypertension, and Prof Marion Smits from Erasmus MC, Rotterdam [above right], on the topic of arterial spin labeling MRI.

Further highlights from this year's ASM programme included presentations from SINAPSE Directors past and present, reflecting on the phases of network establishment/development/continuation over which they have presided:

Prof Joanna Wardlaw: The Beginnings
    Prof Dave Wyper: The Transition
      Prof Alison Murray: The Future

The meeting was supported with generous sponsorship provided by:

      • Partner: NHS Research Scotland
      • Exhibitors: Bartec, Canon Medical, Charcot, Imaging Equipment Ltd., NRS Mental Health Network, and Sectra Ltd.

A photo gallery of highlights from the day, captured by Prof Dave Wyper, can be viewed here: http://www.sinapse.ac.uk/event-photo-galleries/asm-2018

We look forward with excitement to the next 10 Years of SINAPSE!
