The BBC documentary “Alan Shearer: Dementia, Football and Me”, in which former professional footballer Alan Shearer investigates the current state of research into consequences of football heading on brain health, is available to view here.

The programme includes segments filmed at the University of Stirling, where Alan Shearer participates in the protocol from a study published last year by Dr Magdalena Ietswaart and colleagues which found changes in brain function and memory test performance following football heading practice. Another segment, in which Alan Shearer undergoes an MRI brain scan at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow, features appearances by SINAPSE members in the team of clinical scientists and radiographers at the Clinical Research Imaging Facility.
