For many years the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland has been awarding research grants to academics in the Scottish universities. Currently the Trust operates the Research Incentive Grants (RIG) Scheme which offers up to £10,000 of funding to early career researchers from any discipline to undertake short exploratory projects, develop new research activities or carrying out proof-of-principle studies.

It is important that when identifying applications deserving of funds that the Trust makes careful judgements and selects only those proposals of the highest quality. It is in this regard that the Trust is seeking to recruit volunteers from within the SINAPSE community willing to assist in the capacity of Carnegie Research Assessor. The assistance of researchers and academics working across all disciplines of imaging is being sought, and could be hugely valuable to the Trust.

The Trust operates two grant rounds per year and an Assessor will typically be sent between 1 and 3 proposals to review for any given round. Assessors may also be invited, subject to availability, to sit as Panel Members on our two Selection Committees which are convene during each round and tasked with ranking the proposals in terms of research quality.
