Applications are invited from excellent candidates for a number of competitive 4-year PhD projects supported by MRC funding and including projects on biomedical image analysis: http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/phdprog/phd-studentships/programmes/mrc-4-year-programme

The three CVIP projects  are collaborations between the CVIP group and the School of Medicine of the University of Dundee, and address:

  1. the detection and quantification of cerebral microbleeds for large-scale association studies (principal supervisor Prof Stephen McKenna),
  2. the analysis of tubular structures in images of the human retina (blood vessels, various sensors) and cornea (nerve fibers, confocal microscopy; principal supervisor Prof Emanuele Trucco),
  3. machine learning algorithms for mining electronic medical records (principal supervisor Dr Daniel Morales, Population Health Sciences, School of Medicine; co-supervised by Dr Jianguo Zhang).

The CVIP projects are strongly interdisciplinary and build on a solid platform of collaborations between CVIP, NHS hospitals (especially Ninewells Dundee), the Farr Institute (Dundee), and international clinical institutions including MEEI/Harvard Medical Schools, Tufts Medical School, the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute and UCL/Moorfields Eye Hospital London.

Please notice that only UK nationals are eligible, as well as (*) EU nationals who have spent the three years prior to application resident in the UK (this includes residence whilst undertaking undergraduate study).

All applications must be received through the SLS application system, http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/phdprog/apply.

Alternatively, please email sls-PhDAdmin@dundee.ac.uk and your application will be logged.
